For a family, it’s the cat or dog the kids might have grown up with. For a single person, it’s the pet who provided companionship and love while they learned to navigate adulthood. For a newly married couple, it’s their first addition to their new, little family. For an older couple, it’s the cat who curled up on their laps when they became empty nesters or when their spouse was in the hospital or had passed away. For a veteran, it’s the service dog that got them through some of the hardest times in their life, and gave them a reason to get up in the morning.

No matter what stage of life we’re in, our pets are part of our family. They share, or let’s be real, they steal our blankets, beds, couches, food, and hearts in ways that only those who have experienced it can truly understand. From the first step into their furever home to their golden years, our furry companions remain a constant source of joy, comfort, hope, and love. As they age, the bond we share with them deepens, and capturing those fleeting moments and the essence of these senior years becomes all the more precious.

Whether your pet is nearing the end of their journey or has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, an End-of-Life (EOL) session is a heartfelt way to honor their legacy.

During one of these sessions, the focus is on capturing the intimate moments that reflect the unique bond between you and your pet. The gentle nuzzles, the soulful gazes, and the quiet moments of togetherness—all are preserved in beautiful, lasting images. Generally, the session is more what is called ‘pet-led’, meaning we can have ideas of what kind of photos to take, but we’ll make sure the pet is comfortable and relaxed, while still capturing beautiful and meaningful images. We want these sessions to create space to celebrate the joy and comfort your pet has brought into your life, while creating memories that you can look back on and cherish long after they’ve crossed the rainbow bridge.

An EOL session offers a sense of closure and peace, helping you navigate the incredibly difficult emotions that come with saying goodbye. We in the community say, it’s never too early to get photos done so even if your pet isn’t terminally ill, a session provides a way to honor that special bond you share with your pet, creating a lasting tribute to their life and the love they have given you.
If this is something you would like to have done or want more information, I’d love to be of service to you. However, if you’re not local to the area, don’t worry, there is an amazing community of photographers just like me, located all across the country, who would be honored to serve you. Hi, my name is Abbi Garcia, and I am a family and pet photographer in Northern Colorado, and if you can’t tell, I love our pets. My wonderful husband and I own two adorable rescues. One, Lacy, is a seven year old pit/beagle mix, and two, Skillet, a black, medium-haired cat. My love for them and photography drew me to working with people and their pets. I would love to bring the same empathy and quality work to an EOL session for you.
